Bacopa "White"
|
MEDIUM/PH |
IRRIGATION/ NUTRITION |
TEMPERATURE | LIGHT |
| Plant Bacopa in your preferred growing mix as any well drained media will work. Soluble salt level should start out low and the ph should be between 5.5 and 6.0. Run the crop on the dry side, but do not let the crop wilt. | Bacopa grows best when run moist and allowed to dry between irrigations. A constant liquid feed program with a 20-10-20 type of fertilizer at 200-ppm nitrogen will provide good growth. | We suggest 55 - 65(f) nights, with 65 - 75(f) days. At high temperatures above 85 - 90(f) Bacopa will stop flowering, but will again flower once it cools down. | Grow under full sun until temperatures get too warm (85 f +) and then shade for heat control. High temperatures seem to stop the flowering of Bacopa. |
| INSECTS | DISEASES | SCHEDULING |
| Whitefly is a problem on Bacopa. Marathon is beneficial, but check with your local floricultural extension agent for the preferred control measures. | Bacopa is not particularly susceptible to disease, but as with most Crops, it is a good idea to drench at planting and keep foliage as dry as possible during the production cycle. | The common pot sizes for Bacopa are 10" HB, 8" HB, 6" pot, and 4" pot. We put 4 cuttings per 10" HB, 3 cuttings per 8" HB, 2 cuttings per 6" pot, and 1 cutting per 4" pot. At planting the cuttings are pinched and this is the only time pinching is necessary. This crop requires 12-14 weeks to produce nice hanging baskets and 10 to 12 weeks to produce nice pots. Ten-inch hanging baskets are produced on 18 to 24 inch centers, and 4-inch pots are spaced at 6 pots per square foot. |
